Who is it for?

  • Going through a crisis.

  • Rapid changes occurring in your life or lack of change.

  • Feeling distress, overwhelmed, low, angry or anxious.

  • Experiencing conflict within your relationship/s.

  • Feeling isolated or misunderstood.

  • Wanting to make a positive change or just create a better life

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of therapy is different for everyone and depends on the extent of the issues. Some issues will be resolved in just a few therapy sessions whereas other problems may require longer term therapy. It is important to note that often we have had a lifetime of conditioning and belief formation, so it is unreasonable to expect yourself to change overnight. The plan for therapy will be discussed openly with you so that you have a clear understanding of what to expect and should leave your first session feeling relief at having taken the first steps to address your problems, and optimistic about your potential to get well.

What will my first session involve?

All consultations are 50 minutes in duration.

At the beginning of your first session your psychologist will go through important paperwork with you including a consent form that covers issues such as confidentiality, fees and other information about your sessions. The remainder of the first session is spent discussing the issues that have led you to seek therapy. As well as developing an understanding of your concerns, we will explore relevant background information. Based on this information we will begin to help you to understand more about what might be triggering and maintaining your current issues. If time allows, we will also work with you to develop a collaborative and flexible plan for future therapy sessions. You will leave your first therapy session with a greater understanding of what has been happening and a plan for the direction which therapy will take.

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a referral to see a psychologist. However, to be eligible to claim the Medicare rebate under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) you will need to obtain a referral from a GP or psychiatrist. The Medicare rebate is $89.65 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

How much will it cost?

Please see the Fees Section of this site.

Is there a cancellation policy?

If you need to change or cancel your appointment you must arrange this no later than 24 hours prior (1 business day) to your scheduled appointment time. This allows enough time to offer your appointment to other clients. If you cancel or change your appointment within 24 hours, you will be charged a fee of $100 for this session. The FULL FEE will be charged for an appointment that has been missed with no notice (non-attendance).  (Please note: Medicare and private health insurance do not provide rebates for cancelled or unattended appointments).
